Why Being Mean Isn’t The Quirk You Think It Is

Okay, hear me out.

Throughout my teenage years and well into my 20s, I’m noticing a lot of people have this aura to them — you probably know what I’m talking about.

Snobby, “I’m better than everyone else” vibe, judgemental even. Too cool for certain people, actions, activities…

Psychology calls this narcissism.

Narcissism (noun): selfishness, involving a sense of entitlement, a lack of empathy, and a need for admiration, as characterizing a personality.

This could also be categorized as a superiority complex, meaning you think that you’re better than everyone around you.

Look.

It’s perfectly valid to love yourself and have full confidence in who you are. But once that line is crossed and you start belittling others, being mean, and just straight up being an assh*le no one wants to be around, that’s when you need to check yourself.

There is absolutely no reason in this world to put down others in order to feel better about yourself. Life is already as cruel as it can be towards some people, and the last thing we need is condescending humans.

It doesn’t feel good to be around.
